Editorial Policy

How our guides are researched, written, reviewed and kept current.

Independence

Our guides are written to help readers make a decision, not to promote a school. We do not accept payment for rankings or placement in our degree and career guides. Sponsored content, when published, is clearly labeled and kept separate (see Sponsored Posts).

Research standards

  • Pay, employment and job outlook: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook.
  • Earnings by education level: BLS "Education pays."
  • Tuition averages: College Board, Trends in College Pricing.
  • Federal aid: U.S. Department of Education and studentaid.gov.
  • Accreditation: the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

We do not publish salary or tuition figures we cannot trace to a source. Where programs vary, we say so and explain what to ask the school.

Writing and review

Each guide is written in plain language, checked against its sources before publishing, and reviewed when the underlying data changes, typically after the annual BLS update and when federal aid rules change. The review month appears at the top of each guide.

Use of AI tools

We use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help draft and organize content. Every figure is checked against the cited source and every page is reviewed before it is published.
